Falling into November!
Statement from Current Desert Dominion Council
Desert Dominion acknowledges that there has been harm done to the club and community over the past years. We have been reevaluating our processes for welcoming new members and members of the general public, and initiating repair with current members. We have looked internally at our rules, policies, and bylaws and are looking at what will help the future of the club. Desert Dominion is committed to working through building a new “new member orientation” document and a process of re-orientation for current members. This action will help new and current members understand the updated culture expectation of the club and help us all work on a restorative justice process for non-bannable offenses. Steps we are taking in this process:
Acknowledgment of Issues: Recognizing the harm caused to the club and community, fostering an environment of accountability and openness.
Internal Review: Conducting an extensive review of existing rules, policies, and bylaws to identify areas for improvement and ensure they align with the club’s values.
Member Feedback: Engaging both new and existing members in discussions to gather feedback about their experiences and suggestions for improvement.
Orientation Program: Developing an orientation program designed to educate new and current members about the club’s culture, values, and expectations, promoting inclusivity and understanding.
Restorative Justice Initiatives: Establishing a restorative justice process focused on non-bannable offenses, enabling members to resolve conflicts through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Conflict Resolution Strategies: Implementing strategies and resources to create a positive space for interpersonal conflict resolution, encouraging healthy communication among members.
Training and Workshops: Offering training sessions and workshops on conflict resolution, effective communication, and the principles of restorative justice to empower members.
Continuous Improvement: Set up a system for regular feedback and evaluation, ensuring ongoing assessment of the club’s practices and the effectiveness of the changes made.
Transparency and Communication: Committing to maintaining open communication with all members about the changes and progress being made, fostering trust and collaboration within the community
By embracing these principles, Desert Dominion strives to create a supportive and inclusive environment where conflicts can be resolved effectively, and every member feels valued and empowered. Together, we can foster a culture of understanding, respect, and cooperation, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of our community.
